The Power of a Grateful Heart
June 16, 2026 · Hosanna Pentecostal Church
Paul's instruction in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 to rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances can sound almost impossible when life is hard. But notice what it does not say — it does not say to give thanks for every circumstance, but in every circumstance.
There is a difference. We are not called to pretend pain is good. We are called to trust that God is still good in the middle of it, and to look for the small mercies that remain even on hard days: a friend who checks in, a roof overhead, breath in our lungs, grace for one more day.
Gratitude reshapes our perspective. It does not erase our troubles, but it reminds us that they are not the whole story. Try keeping a short list this week of three things you are thankful for each day, even — especially — on the difficult ones.
